The Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) has officially partnered with the Land Transport Regulatory Authority Consumer Consultative Council (LATRA CCC) to enhance consumer education and protection within Tanzania's land transport sector. The partnership was sealed today, October 22, 2024, at the FCS headquarters in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
Justice Rutenge, FCS Director, described the collaboration as a critical step toward ensuring that land transport users are well-informed about their rights and the services available to them. He emphasized that the partnership aligns with the FCS's mission of fostering development through active public participation.
"There is no development without people participating in that development. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to supporting consumers and improving the operations of LATRA CCC," Rutenge said, adding that the collaboration will help LATRA CCC explore new revenue streams and strengthen consumer protection mechanisms.
LATRA CCC Executive Secretary, Daudi Daudi, highlighted that the partnership would lead to the development and implementation of key initiatives, including consumer education programs targeting various groups, such as students, pregnant women, the elderly, and other land transport users. He emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to create a more informed and empowered consumer base in Tanzania's transport sector.
"This agreement marks the beginning of a three-year partnership focused on building capacity, promoting sound business practices, and advocating for consumer rights. Together, we aim to create lasting change for land transport users across the country," Daudi said.
The partnership is set to run from 2024 to 2027, fostering collaboration and bolstering LATRA CCC's capacity as it continues to protect and advocate for consumers, as mandated by the Parliamentary Act of 2019.
