61 Sports Associations in Iringa Face Risk of Deregistration

By Alfred Zacharia

A total of 61 sports associations in the Iringa Region are at risk of being deregistered due to non-compliance with national sports operational requirements.

This situation affects approximately 4,000 associations across the country.

The warning was issued on October 22, 2024, by Evordy Kyando, the Acting Registrar of Sports Associations under the National Sports Council (BMT), during a meeting with local sports stakeholders.

Kyando highlighted several reasons contributing to the potential deregistration, including failure to pay necessary fees, a lack of organized competitions, absence of required meetings, and the failure to submit financial statements.

“We have no justification for maintaining inactive associations. It is more beneficial to deregister them and allow new, committed associations to emerge and promote sports development in the country,” Kyando asserted.

He encouraged stakeholders to seek assistance from the National Sports Council to salvage their associations. “Our office is always available to help those who are willing to revive their associations,” he stated.

Participants at the meeting expressed gratitude for the guidance provided by the council and requested that such meetings occur more frequently to enhance their understanding of operational guidelines.

Steven Sanga, Secretary of the Iringa Regional Sports Committee, thanked the council officers and committed to implementing their advice in collaboration with local sports stakeholders.

“Let’s embark on a new chapter with the insights we’ve gained today and strive to make Iringa a model for sports development nationwide,” Sanga concluded.
