The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has today, 11th September 2024, donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to the Ilala Regional Police Force during a handover ceremony held on September 10, 2024, at the police headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on behalf of the WMA Chief Executive Officer, Ilala Regional Weights Manager Muhono Nashon said the donation reflects the long-standing collaboration between WMA and the police, particularly in crime, security, and inspections.

Nashon emphasized that the partnership has been instrumental in maintaining peace and security, which benefits WMA employees and the general public, ensuring that developmental activities proceed smoothly.

"This contribution underscores our commitment to supporting the police and other government institutions in adopting ICT to enhance their service delivery," said Nashon during the event. "We are confident that this equipment will help the police force improve efficiency in its day-to-day operations."

The gesture comes as part of WMA's ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with both government and private institutions. Over the years, WMA has provided technical advice, seminars, and capacity-building initiatives to various agencies, promoting the accurate use of measurements and offering training to ensure compliance with standards.

In his remarks, Ilala Assistant Commissioner of Police and Chief of Staff, Mohammed Makusi, expressed his gratitude to WMA, noting that the donation could not have come at a better time. He revealed that the equipment would greatly enhance the force’s use of technology, as they prepare to mark 60 years of the Tanzania Police Force later this month.

“These tools are timely as we approach the 60th Anniversary of the Tanzania Police Force, which will culminate on September 27, 2024,” said Makusi. He added that this year’s theme for the anniversary celebrations is, "Better Police Services Through Mindset Change, Law Enforcement, and ICT Utilization."

Makusi reiterated that the police force is committed to fully integrating ICT in its operations to improve service delivery to the public. "We are extremely grateful for WMA’s support in boosting our technological capacity. This contribution will undoubtedly help us provide better services," he stated.

As the Tanzania Police Force looks ahead to its landmark 60th anniversary, this partnership with WMA signals a concerted effort by government agencies to embrace ICT, fostering a more efficient and secure working environment for both officers and the communities they serve.

WMA’s commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders continues to contribute significantly to the development of the country’s security and economic sectors, ensuring that standards are maintained while promoting innovation in service delivery.
