Dar es Salaam: More than 1,230,780 pupils are scheduled to take the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (Necta) has warned that any students found cheating will have their results nullified. The two-day examination period will conclude on September 12, 2024.
Speaking to the press today, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Necta's Executive Secretary, Said Mohamed, confirmed that the preparations for the exams are complete. He highlighted that 564,176 candidates (45.84%) are female, while 666,604 (54.16%) are male.
Among the candidates, 4,583 have special needs, including 98 blind students, 1,402 with low vision, 1,067 with hearing impairments, 486 with intellectual disabilities, and 1,530 with physical disabilities.
Mohamed also noted that out of the 1,230,780 registered candidates, 1,158,862 (94.16%) will take the exams in Kiswahili, while 71,918 (5.84%) will sit for the exams in English, their language of instruction.
The pupils will be tested in six subjects: Kiswahili, English Language, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Life Skills and Civics.
On the examination's logistics, Mohamed assured the public that all materials, including exam papers and necessary documents, have been distributed to all municipal and district councils across the country. The smooth distribution is part of Necta's ongoing efforts to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
