The Energy
and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has issued a warning
statement to petrol station owners on dangerous practice that violates the
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines.
This stamen
issued on Sunday (September 16) follows the recent multiple fire incidents
caused by the improper storage and sale of petrol such as the use of plastic
containers and bottles, which is strictly prohibited.
According
to Regulation No. 27 of the 2022 Petroleum Station Business Regulations,
"all petrol station owners are required to follow safety measures to
protect public health, property, and the environment." The regulation
emphasizes the importance of preventing fire hazards.

"Selling
petrol in plastic containers, bottles, or any other unauthorized storage items
is illegal and dangerous," EWURA reminds petrol station owners.
The authority
wants petrol stations to comply with these safety rules to avoid accidents.
EWURA has
also announced that inspectors will be conducting checks to ensure compliance.
"Any
station found violating the law will face severe penalties, including the
potential closure of the business," EWURA warned in a statement.
