Yanga demolish Azam to lift Community Shield trophy

Young Africans have bagged the 2024 Community Shield title after outclassing Azam FC 4-1 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday evening.

Despite Azam taking the lead in the 13th minute of the first half courtesy of Feisal Salum, they regrouped and pulled one back in the 18th minute through Prince Dube.

The former Azam net-burster showed no remorse to punish his former employer's which helped them to get back into the tense contest.

In the 27th minute, an own goal by Azam center-back Yoro Diaby rewarded the hosts a second goal as they controlled matters of the match.

Last season's Most Valuable Player (MVP) Stephanie Aziz Ki stretched the lead in the 31st minute to make the Premier League champions go for breather with an advantage of three goals in bag.

Substitute Clement Mzize who came in the second half for Dube sealed the deal with a classic finish from Clatous Chama assist.

This marked the end of the drama at a well attended 60,000 capacity venue as Miguel Gamondi charges celebrated the massive victory while Azam moved off the pitch with heads down.

Before taking on Yanga, Azam emerged 5-2 winners over Coastal Union in the first semi-final match of the contest.
