Vice President Mpango and WEF Team Up to Tackle Plastic Waste Crisis



Dodoma. On Thursday (August 15), the Vice President of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, met with a World Economic Forum (WEF) delegation led by Clemence Schmid, Director of Plastics Waste Management, at the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma.

Dr. Mpango explained how the government is committed to working with stakeholders, the private sector, and the international community to tackle plastic waste. Cooperation is crucial because plastic waste often travels to other countries, especially via the oceans."

He invited the WEF to collaborate on various fronts, including building expertise, enabling advanced recycling technologies, and supporting plastic waste management projects financially.

"Tanzania has already taken steps to address plastic waste, such as banning plastic bags and educating the public on proper disposal," Dr. Mpango added.

Clemence Schmid praised Tanzania's efforts, saying, "We are impressed by Tanzania's dedication to preventing plastic pollution. The WEF is eager to partner with the Tanzanian government to address this issue."

Schmid outlined the WEF's goals, which include identifying challenges, connecting stakeholders, and using resources efficiently to improve plastic waste management infrastructure.
