Misugusugu,
Pwani. Chief Executive Officer of the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) Mr. Alban
Kihulla has discussed investment opportunities in Tanzania’s measurement
industry.
He spoke
during a visit from Raphael Maganga, CEO of the Tanzania Private Sector
Foundation (TPSF), to the Misugusugu Verification Center on Thursday (August
15).
Kihulla
highlighted several key areas for investment. These include local production of
scales and water meters, which are currently imported.
“Local
manufacturing could reduce our dependency on imports,” Kihulla said.
He also
pointed to the need for better verification equipment and modern technologies.
Kihulla
stressed the importance of setting up training centers and improving
distribution systems.
“These
steps will help develop a skilled workforce and ensure timely product
delivery,” he added.
Maganga
praised the government’s investment in the Misugusugu Verification Center,
calling it “unique in East Africa.”
He urged
businesses to have their measurement equipment verified by WMA experts to
ensure fairness.
Maganga’s
visit followed recent discussions with traders on improving access to
measurement services. The Misugusugu center operates 24/7 and can verify up to
60 petroleum tankers and 800 water meters daily. It has attracted interest from
various African countries seeking to learn from its operations.
