The
Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) has partnered with the
Journalists Union of Tanzania (JOWUTA) to enhance workplace safety awareness
among journalists.
In a
recent training session in Dar es Salaam, OSHA provided JOWUTA members with
insights on identifying workplace hazards and understanding relevant safety
laws. The aim was to improve journalists’ knowledge and help them educate the
public about safety issues.
“Community
awareness about workplace safety is still limited. By training journalists, who
are also workers, we hope to spread crucial safety information more widely,” said
OSHA Director General Hadija Mwenda.
Mwenda
highlighted the importance of ergonomic practices, such as using proper chairs
and ensuring good lighting to prevent injuries. She stressed that journalists
should share their new knowledge to help make workplaces safer.
JOWUTA
Chairman Mussa Juma thanked OSHA for the training and expressed hope for
ongoing sessions.
“Journalists
face many challenges in their work, and this training will help address some of
them,” Juma said.
JOWUTA
Secretary General Suleiman Msuya noted that 50 members from Dar es Salaam and
nearby regions participated in this session. He requested that similar training
be extended to members in other regions, emphasizing the importance of
widespread safety education.
“We
believe these training sessions are crucial for our members,” Msuya added. “We
look forward to continued collaboration with OSHA to ensure that all our
members are well-informed and safe in their work.”
