Justdiggit Launches Kijani App to Empower 350 Million Farmers Across Sub-Saharan Africa

The Justdiggit Foundation has unveiled its revolutionary Kijani app, aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape for approximately 350 million smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa.

Launched on August 8 at the Nanenane Grounds by the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. David Silinde (MP), this cutting-edge app promises to bring essential greening education directly to rural areas, eliminating the need for in-person training.

Marjolein Albers, CEO of Justdiggit Foundation, emphasized the app’s role in democratizing access to agricultural knowledge.

"After nearly a decade of hands-on training, the Kijani app provides a platform where anyone can access vital greening techniques and communication tools, helping us reach our ambitious goal of impacting 350 million farmers," she stated.

The Kijani app simplifies farming knowledge with easy-to-follow digital procedures designed to boost yields, enrich soil, and enhance agricultural practices. "It’s user-friendly and intuitive," added Albers.

"Farmers can download, install, and navigate the app with ease. They can also track their progress by uploading farm photos."

Employing GPS technology, the app accurately locates individual farmers and offers round-the-clock support through an online helpdesk. The Justdiggit team further verifies reported results using satellite imagery, ensuring the effectiveness of the techniques taught.

Available in both Swahili and English, the Kijani app is set to encourage the widespread use of smartphones among farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, revolutionizing the way agricultural education is delivered and accessed.
