Deputy PM Dr. Biteko commends EWURA for environmental hygiene guidelines

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko, has praised the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) for its new guidelines on environmental hygiene and waste management.

The guidelines aim to ensure a healthier and safer environment for current and future generations, according to a speech delivered by the Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination), William Lukuvi.

"I commend EWURA for creating this Kiswahili guide to help water and sanitation authorities provide waste management services, especially for communities not connected to the sewage network," Dr. Biteko said in the speech.

He also acknowledged EWURA’s improved reporting system (MajiS), saying the system will deliver more accurate data on environmental hygiene and is crucial for planning in the water, health, and environmental sectors.

Dr. Biteko urged all stakeholders to follow these guidelines closely.

"Environmental hygiene is essential across all sectors. This conference will generate valuable ideas to improve hygiene and drive the country's development," he added.

Minister of Water, Jumaa Hamidu Aweso, shared his optimism about the new guidelines, saying thhe guidelines will help water authorities and other stakeholders enhance environmental hygiene and waste management.

EWURA’s Director General, Dr. James Andilile, stressed the importance of clean environments for public health.

"Studies from as far back as the 19th century show that clean environments lead to better health and fewer diseases. This gathering is about planning strategies to improve hygiene," he said.

EWURA Board's Vice Chairperson, Victoria Elangwa, confirmed that the conference will feature presentations to help experts develop better conservation strategies.

"The board is committed to ensuring these strategies are implemented," she assured.
