Dar es Salaam. Tanzania will host the 5th
International Mining Investment Conference in Dar es Salaam from November 19 to
21, 2024, Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, announced on August 21,
2024.
The conference theme, "Value Addition in Minerals
for Social and Economic Development,” will guide in-depth discussions on
new directions for the mining sector.
The country’s focus, according to him, will be on eying and
tapping investment opportunities in value addition, mining activities and the global
market for essential minerals.
"This conference will bring together global
stakeholders in the mining sector. We plan to unveil new investment
opportunities and facilitate technology transfer," said Minister Mavunde.
Participants will also gain insights into Tanzania's mineral
policies and investment incentives, offering a unique opportunity to understand
the government's plans for sustainable mineral extraction.
"President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed that
all minerals mined in Tanzania should contribute significantly to the national
economy. We will utilize the conference to implement this strategy which cements
jobs creation, technological growth, and driving social and economic
development, he highlighted.
Deputy Permanent Secretary, Msafiri Mbibo, said that the
conference will serve as a foundation for capacity building and technology
transfer.
"Expert discussions will offer new perspectives on
improving the sector. The conference will attract more companies involved in
exploration, mining, and value addition," Mbibo noted.
Chief executive officer of the Tanzania Chamber of Mines, Eng.
Benjamin Mchwampaka, expressed his gratitude for the partnership with the
Ministry of Minerals, believing that the conference will enhance the efficiency
of country’s operations and the entire mining value chain.
The conference will also feature a "Mining
Night," an event that showcasing Tanzania's gemstones and recognizing
outstanding companies and miners.
The announcement event was attended by senior ministry
officials, ambassadors, large-scale and medium-scale miners, service providers,
mineral traders, financial institutions, and various other stakeholders in the
mining sector.
