Dar Es Salaam: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed the newly appointed
Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jaffo to work closely with the
Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam to develop plans for the Kariakoo
Market, which is under renovation.
The Head of State issued the directive
on July 5, 2024 during swearing-in of the newly appointed ministers and the
Commissioner of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) at a ceremony held at the
Tunguu State House, Zanzibar.
President Samia instructed Jafo, to
ensure that once the construction of Kariakoo Market is completed, business
operations there should run continuously, 24 hours a day.
Earlier, the contractor announced that
the construction work had reached 93 percent.
She also directed the new Minister of
State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Dr. Ashatu
Kijaji, to push the clean energy agenda, focusing on environmental protection.
Furthermore, President Samia tasked
the new Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Yahya Samamba, to conduct
mining license verifications.
She directed the newly appointed TRA
Commissioner General, Yusuph Mwenda, to prioritize the nation’s interests in
tax administration to boost collections.
Furthermore, President Samia wanted
the newly TRA boss to intensify efforts in closing tax evasion loopholes, to
increase domestic revenues significantly, enabling the government to expand
service delivery to citizens across the nation.
The Head of State reminded the
appointees to work diligently to avoid unnecessary CAG queries.
