Former Speaker of Parliament and Uyole MP Tulia Ackson has donated 600 kilogrammes of rice and TZS2 million to residents affected by floods in Nzovwe Ward, Mbeya City, as efforts to support households hit by the disaster continue.
The floods, which occurred on November 3, 2026, following heavy rainfall lasting about 10 minutes, left some residents without shelter and disrupted their daily lives.
The donation was delivered on November 4, 2026, on behalf of Dr Ackson by Tulia Trust Information Officer Joshua Mwakanolo, who said the legislator was moved by the suffering of residents after learning about the disaster.
Mr Mwakanolo said Dr Ackson remained committed to supporting communities in Mbeya despite no longer representing the Mbeya constituency in Parliament.
"Before becoming the MP for Uyole, Dr Tulia represented Mbeya, so the relationship with the people remains. She instructed us to visit the residents and convey her condolences. When she returns, she will also come to see them because we are still one family and have worked together on many issues affecting the community," he said.
He said the rice and TZS2 million had been handed over to the ward office to facilitate coordination and ensure the assistance reached the intended beneficiaries.
A Nzovwe resident, Mr Jackson Mwakifubwa, thanked Dr Ackson for the intervention, saying it demonstrated solidarity with families affected by the floods.
He said the donation would help ease the immediate difficulties facing victims as they struggle to recover from the disaster.
