Tanzania's Taifa Stars will begin preparations on November 8 for a crucial two-match showdown against Nigeria as they seek to strengthen their bid for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The national men's team is scheduled to face Nigeria on November 13 and 17, with the encounters expected to have a significant bearing on Tanzania's qualification ambitions.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Director of Information and Communications Clifford Mario Ndimbo said preparations were underway, with the team expected to assemble once the November FIFA international window begins.

Speaking to The Respondent online, Mr Ndimbo said the federation was working to conclude outstanding domestic league fixtures to allow players selected for national duty to join camp without delays.

"Our head coach, Miguel Gamondi, has already named the squad that will enter camp to begin official preparations," he said.

Gamondi has named 24 players for the two matches, with the selection featuring a blend of established internationals and other players seeking to strengthen their places in the national team.

Goalkeepers Aishi Manula and Zuberi Foba have been included in the squad.

The defensive options comprise Abdul Hamis, Antony Mligo, Nathaniel Chilambo, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Dickson Job, Ibrahim Abdulla, Evastus Lukanima, Haji Mnoga, Alphonce Mabula and Ben Starkie.

In midfield, Gamondi has selected Himid Mao, Feisal Salum, Selemani Mwalimu, Sheikhan Khamis and Novatus Miroshi.

The attacking department includes Clement Mzize, Simon Msuva, Cyprian Kachwele, Kibu Denis and Bernard Kamungo.

The latest selection also sees several players who have featured regularly in previous national team squads miss out, signalling changes in Gamondi's options ahead of the demanding fixtures.

The two encounters against Nigeria will be an important test for Taifa Stars as Tanzania pursues qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The tournament will offer Tanzania an opportunity to compete on home soil, making qualification a major objective for the national team.
