NMB Bank has set aside more than TZS600 million in prizes for customers who save with the bank, in a campaign seeking to encourage savings while expanding its customer base.
The three-month campaign, dubbed Bonge la Mpango – Weka na Ushinde, began on November 1 and will run until January 31, 2027. It offers cash prizes, motorcycles and three vehicles to customers participating in the promotion.
Speaking at the campaign's launch in Dar es Salaam on November 3, NMB Chief Retail Banking Officer Filbert Mponzi said 130 customers would each win Sh100,000 through 13 weekly draws, while another 30 would receive Sh500,000 each through monthly draws.
The top prizes comprise a Toyota Land Cruiser designed for tourism activities and two Ford Ranger vehicles.
Beyond individual customers, the campaign also targets agricultural cooperative societies, particularly in Mtwara and Lindi, where cashew nut marketing is a major economic activity.
Mr Mponzi said NMB had set aside more than 20 motorcycles for Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) that channel cashew nut payments through the bank during the 2026/27 marketing season.
The arrangement is expected to encourage cooperatives to use formal banking channels in handling payments to farmers while strengthening the bank's presence in the agricultural sector.
NMB Head of Branches and Sales Donatus Richard called on Tanzanians to open bank accounts and develop a savings culture, saying the bank's digital platforms had made access to financial services easier.
He said customers using NMB Mkononi could carry out transactions and access a range of banking services, including loans of up to Sh5 million without collateral.
The campaign adds to efforts by financial institutions to encourage households and businesses to save through formal banking channels, while using digital platforms to widen access to financial services.
