The Tanzania Teachers’ Union (CWT) has commended Kibaha Municipal Council for investing in school infrastructure and improving working conditions for teachers.
The praise follows the council’s efforts to address teachers’ challenges through the construction of school facilities and plans to improve access to essential services.
Speaking during a meeting with CWT national leaders, Kibaha Municipal Mayor Dr Nicas Mawazo said the council had introduced a programme to construct administrative offices for teachers in all primary and secondary schools.
He said the initiative would provide teachers with better working spaces and help improve the quality of the learning environment.
Dr Mawazo stressed that improving education required cooperation between the central government, local authorities, teachers and parents.
He said teachers had the responsibility of educating children, while parents also needed to support schools to ensure students had a good environment for learning.
According to the mayor, Kibaha Municipality has 58 primary schools and 24 secondary schools. He added that 14 secondary schools had been constructed during the four years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.
The mayor also announced that the council had set aside Sh4 billion for education infrastructure in the 2026/2027 financial year.
The funds will support the construction of 174 classrooms, of which 22 have already been completed.
He said the municipality was also planning to introduce internet services in all schools to help teachers submit reports and access information more easily.
CWT National Chairperson Shaban Ambindwile thanked Mayor Mawazo for his commitment to improving education and addressing teachers’ concerns.
He said the education sector continued to face various challenges, but the plans presented by the municipality showed its determination to improve teachers’ working conditions.
Ambindwile described the council’s efforts as an important achievement for teachers, adding that better working conditions would also contribute to improved education services.
Looking ahead, the council plans to allocate additional funds in the 2027/2028 financial year for the construction of school toilets and the provision of furniture.
The meeting was attended by CWT National Secretary Magesa Protas, Acting Treasurer James P. Asagwile, Coast Regional Secretary Suzane Shesha, retired CWT Treasurer Abubakari Alawi and other senior union officials.
