The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has emerged as the top-performing education institution at the ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition, taking first place for its display of mining-related training, innovations and technologies.

VETA received the award on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the exhibition grounds in Bombambili, Geita, where participating institutions were recognised for their contributions to the annual event.

The prizes were presented by the Deputy Secretary-General in the Office of the Vice President (Union), Dr Latifa Hamis Mohamed.

The College of Business Education (CBE) took second place, while Shinyanga College of Health Sciences finished third in the education institutions category.

The recognition puts the spotlight on the role of vocational training institutions in developing skills and technologies that can respond to challenges facing Tanzania’s mining industry and the wider economy.

VETA used the exhibition, which started on September 23, to showcase training programmes related to mining as well as innovations developed by its instructors and students.

The authority also demonstrated technologies designed to address challenges affecting economic activities in the Lake Zone, one of Tanzania’s key mining areas.

VETA Public Relations and Marketing Manager Sitta Peter said the award reflected efforts by the authority to contribute to the mining sector and other areas of the economy through skills development and innovation.

“This award is a reflection of the efforts being made by VETA in the mining sector and other areas of the economy,” Mr Peter said.

The exhibition has brought together government institutions, training institutions, mining companies, technology developers and other stakeholders to showcase equipment, innovations and services linked to the mining industry.

For VETA, the award provides further visibility for vocational training as Tanzania seeks to strengthen technical skills needed by industries, including mining.

The ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition is being held at the Dkt Samia Suluhu Hassan grounds in Bombambili, Geita, and is scheduled to run until October 3.
