Residents of Utende Village in Mlele District, Katavi Region, have been urged to work closely with the Police Force by reporting criminal activities and suspicious incidents promptly to help protect lives, safeguard property and maintain peace in their community.
The call was made on October 13, 2026, by Utende Ward Police Officer, Inspector Kulwa Kusekwa, during a public awareness session aimed at strengthening community participation in crime prevention.
Inspector Kusekwa encouraged residents to take an active role in promoting security by providing timely information about criminal incidents and potential threats to the police.
He emphasized that cooperation between citizens and law enforcement officers is essential to preventing crime, responding effectively to security threats and creating a safer environment for everyone.
“Residents should not wait until a crime has occurred before reporting suspicious activities. Sharing information with the police in a timely manner can help prevent crime and protect lives and property,” was the message conveyed through the awareness campaign.
Inspector Kusekwa also urged individuals possessing illegal firearms to surrender them voluntarily to the relevant authorities in accordance with established procedures.
He noted that addressing the illegal possession of firearms would help reduce the risks associated with their misuse and contribute to greater safety for residents and their property.
During the awareness session, residents were also educated on precautionary measures against weather-related risks associated with El Niño conditions.
They were advised to follow weather forecasts, official announcements and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents were further urged to avoid flood-prone areas, remain alert to potential hazards and take early precautionary measures to minimise the risk of loss of life and damage to property.
The campaign underscores the importance of public participation in addressing both security and environmental risks, with residents encouraged to work together with authorities to build a safer and more resilient community.
Through timely crime reporting, responsible behaviour and preparedness for extreme weather, Utende residents can play a vital role in protecting their families, neighbours and the wider community.
