Motorcycle taxi operators at Mizengo Pinda Main Bus Terminal in Katavi Region have been urged to observe road safety laws and regulations to protect themselves, their passengers and other road users.
The call was made on October 13, 2026, by Police Sergeant Veronica Rumisha, who emphasized the importance of wearing protective helmets whenever riding motorcycles.
Sergeant Rumisha explained that helmets help reduce the severity of head injuries that may occur during road accidents. She urged riders to make helmet use a priority whenever they operate their motorcycles.
She also cautioned the operators against speeding and carrying more passengers than legally permitted, warning that such practices put lives at risk and increase the likelihood of road accidents.
The police officer further urged riders to comply with all traffic laws and safety regulations while conducting their daily business, emphasizing the need for responsible riding to safeguard both passengers and the wider community.
Observing speed limits, wearing protective helmets and carrying only the legally permitted number of passengers are essential measures that can help prevent avoidable accidents and make roads safer for everyone.
