UDP candidate promises better access to water, health services in Chamwino

United Democratic Party (UDP) parliamentary candidate for Chamwino, Hasma Judi Hamisi, has pledged to prioritise education, healthcare, clean water and affordable loans for small-scale entrepreneurs if elected to Parliament.

Speaking at the party’s campaign launch in Chamwino, Ms Hamisi said she was ready to represent residents and push for solutions to challenges affecting households, traders and other groups in the constituency.

“I am well prepared to serve you diligently, professionally, effectively and at the right time,” she said, asking voters to give her the mandate to represent them.

On education, Ms Hamisi pledged to work with teachers to reduce unnecessary school contributions and help ensure that all children have access to education.

She also promised to advocate for the construction of dispensaries in every village, with particular attention to maternal and child healthcare services.

On water, the candidate said she had assessed the situation in the constituency and identified shortages that require intervention, pledging to push for improved access to clean and safe water.

Small-scale traders, food vendors and motorcycle taxi operators were also among the groups she promised to support, saying she would advocate for access to affordable loans with reasonable interest rates and fewer administrative barriers.

“All I ask for is your vote. Elect your fellow young person to bring development,” she said.

UDP National Secretary General Saumu Rashid urged residents to maintain peace during the election period, saying political differences should not overshadow the national interest.

Delivering greetings from party chairman John Momose Cheyo, Ms Rashid said he had been unable to attend the campaign launch because of other responsibilities.

She said the by-election followed the departure of former Chamwino MP Deo Ndejembi, who had been given another responsibility as Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, leaving the parliamentary seat vacant.

Ms Rashid urged residents to participate in the November 4, 2026 election and ensure their votes were properly cast.

She cautioned voters against deliberately defacing or damaging ballot papers, saying such actions could invalidate their votes.

“Vote correctly, then go home and wait for the results. We believe whoever wins will be the winner of the people of Chamwino,” she said.

Ms Rashid also highlighted the party’s economic agenda, saying it seeks to improve the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, including grape farmers in Chamwino and the wider Dodoma region.

She said the party intended to promote better infrastructure and reliable markets for grapes, which she described as a strategic crop for the area.

If elected, Ms Hamisi would have a responsibility to raise constituency concerns in Parliament and advocate policies and investments aimed at improving residents’ economic opportunities, Ms Rashid said.

Sixteen political parties have fielded candidates in the Chamwino parliamentary by-election, while CHADEMA, ACT-Wazalendo and CUF are not participating, according to the information provided at the campaign event.
