TRA steps up checks on fuel stations over EFD receipts

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has intensified inspections of fuel stations in Igunga District to ensure operators issue electronic fiscal device (EFD) receipts for every sale, as the taxman seeks to strengthen compliance with tax laws.

The inspections, conducted on October 26, 2026, focused on verifying the issuance of valid receipts and reminding fuel dealers of their legal obligations.

The exercise was led by TRA Tabora Assistant Customer Service Manager Mussa Soud, accompanied by Igunga District TRA Manager Erick Kabingo and other tax officers.

Speaking during the inspections, Mr Soud urged business owners to issue EFD receipts for every transaction, regardless of the amount involved, saying compliance with tax requirements was a responsibility that all traders should uphold.

He also called on customers to make it a habit to demand receipts whenever they purchase fuel or other goods and services.

The authority said the exercise was intended to promote voluntary tax compliance and ensure businesses meet their obligations under the law.

Issuing EFD receipts helps create a record of business transactions, supporting tax administration and efforts to ensure that businesses accurately account for their sales.

TRA has continued to encourage both traders and consumers to play their part in improving tax compliance by ensuring that every transaction is properly recorded.
