The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) increased its revenue collection by 22.5 per cent to TZS110.4 billion in the 2025/26 financial year, up from TZS90.1 billion recorded in the previous year.
The growth comes as the corporation prepares to transition into the Tanzania Maritime Authority (TaMA), a move expected to strengthen the regulatory framework governing the country's maritime transport sector.
TASAC Director General Mohamed Salum announced the revenue performance on October 30, 2026, during the corporation's Annual Staff Meeting held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha, Coast Region.
He said the proposed change in institutional status was part of efforts to strengthen the oversight of maritime transport activities and improve the corporation's capacity to deliver its mandate.
The transition comes as the corporation seeks to enhance efficiency in the sector, which plays an important role in facilitating domestic and international trade.
Mr Salum said the annual meeting also reviewed measures to improve working conditions, preparations for constructing the corporation's headquarters and the adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) systems to improve operations.
Other priorities discussed included strengthening maritime safety and security, as well as search and rescue services.
He urged employees to uphold professionalism, integrity and accountability, warning that effective use of working hours and public resources was essential to achieving the corporation's targets.
"Employees should continue performing their duties with professionalism, integrity and accountability, while ensuring proper use of time and public resources," he said.
Meanwhile, Public Service Commission Commissioner Susan Mlawi challenged TASAC employees to improve service delivery by upholding respect, transparency, efficiency and accountability when dealing with customers.
She also reminded them to observe public service ethics and regulations when using social media, stressing the importance of responsible conduct among public servants.
The annual meeting provided a platform for management and employees to review institutional performance, discuss workplace challenges and strengthen communication on the corporation's priorities.
The discussions were also aimed at building a shared understanding of employees' responsibilities and improving accountability in implementing TASAC's objectives.
