Mtumba government city to unlock new business opportunities

By The Respondents Reporter

The growing concentration of government ministries and institutions at Mtumba in Dodoma is expected to create new investment opportunities in transport, accommodation, trade and professional services, as the government city takes shape as the country’s administrative centre.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, said the expansion of government operations would increase demand for goods and services, creating opportunities for businesses to grow and generate income.

Speaking to journalists in Dodoma on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, ahead of the inauguration of ministry and government institution office buildings and tarmac roads at the Government City, Prof Kabudi urged investors to position themselves to benefit from the emerging opportunities.

He said the development of Mtumba should not be seen merely as the construction of government offices but also as an opportunity to stimulate private sector investment and expand economic activities in Dodoma.

“As government activities continue to expand in Mtumba, demand for various services will also increase, opening up investment opportunities in transport, accommodation, trade and professional services,” he said.

The increase in the number of government employees, visitors and other people conducting official business in the area is expected to create a wider market for transport operators, hotels, restaurants, retailers and other service providers.

For local entrepreneurs, this could mean opportunities to establish or expand businesses to meet the needs of the growing administrative centre. However, realising these benefits will depend on the private sector's ability to respond to demand through investment in reliable and affordable services.

Prof Kabudi said the government would continue creating a favourable environment for investors and businesspeople to take advantage of opportunities arising from the development of Mtumba and the wider expansion of Dodoma.

He called on the private sector to increase investment in the area, saying the growth of government operations presented opportunities for businesses to participate in the city's economic development.

The Government City is a key part of efforts to consolidate Dodoma's position as Tanzania's administrative capital, with ministries and public institutions operating from a designated government centre.

Beyond the expected economic benefits, Prof Kabudi said the new infrastructure should also translate into improved public service delivery.

He urged public servants working at Mtumba to use the facilities effectively by strengthening accountability, integrity, innovation and efficiency in serving citizens.

He cautioned that modern office buildings and improved roads alone would not guarantee better government performance without corresponding improvements in the conduct and commitment of public servants.

"Having good government buildings alone is not enough to achieve the expected results without effective performance, work discipline and patriotism among public servants," he said.

The challenge, therefore, will be to ensure that investment in the Government City delivers benefits beyond improved working conditions for public officials, including better public services, wider business opportunities and economic gains for residents of Dodoma.
