Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Msafiri Mbibo, has urged staff in the mining sector to make regular physical exercise part of their daily lives to improve their health, prevent non-communicable diseases and strengthen workplace unity.
Mr Mbibo made the call on September 17, 2026, during the Mining Bonanza held at John Marline Secondary School grounds in Dodoma, where employees from the ministry and its affiliated institutions gathered for sports and recreational activities.
He emphasised that exercise should not be limited to special events but should become a regular habit, noting that physical activity contributes to both physical and mental well-being.
He said sporting activities also provide an opportunity for employees to build stronger relationships, improve teamwork and enhance cooperation in carrying out their duties.
“Exercise should be part of our daily lives because it helps us maintain good health while strengthening unity and cooperation among employees,” he said.
For his part, Minerals Commissioner Dr AbdulRahman Mwanga commended employees for participating in the bonanza and urged them to sustain the spirit of unity and make regular exercise a priority.
The event featured several sporting activities, including football, netball, basketball, tug-of-war, athletics, chicken chasing, sack races and egg-and-spoon races.
Participants represented the Ministry of Minerals, the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency and Accountability Secretariat (TEITI), the Mining Commission, the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), the Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) and the Tanzania Gemmological Centre (TGC).
The bonanza brought together employees from the institutions to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen working relationships and encourage greater interaction beyond their normal workplace responsibilities.
