Malaika Gray releases debut single “My Fever” featuring Marioo

By Our Reporter

The first single from Tanzanian singer-songwriter Malaika Gray, featuring Marioo, is released worldwide today.

It was written in Tanzania, recorded in Tanzania, and filmed across the streets of Dar es Salaam.

Malaika Gray grew up wanting to make music at home.

Her first release is the one she always imagined made in Dar es Salaam, with Tanzanian collaborators, in the city that shaped her.

“I made this at home because that’s where my heart is Tanzania, and the continent I know and love. But I make music for whoever it reaches. Home is where it starts, not where it stops,” said Malaika Gray.

“My Fever” is a love song the rush of summer, the pull between two people built on Afrobeats and Bongo Flava and carrying the R&B inflections of a childhood spent between countries. Malaika Gray wrote it with Marioo. Abbah Process produced it.

“I wrote this one about the feeling when summer and a person arrive at the same time. I wanted it to sound like Dar,” she added.

The video was filmed over two days across the city under the direction of Joma the Indian Ocean, the markets, the daladalas, the salons, the streets with Marioo joining her on camera. It is released today across both artists’ channels.

“Malaika has a real talent, and it was a pleasure to be part of her first record. I’m looking forward to us making more music together,” said Marioo

More music follows, with collaborations planned across East and Southern Africa through 2027.

Raised between Tanzania and South Africa, Malaika Gray is studying Vocal Performance and Music Business at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

“My Fever” is released through Africori, part of the Warner Music Group.
