Dr Homera meets Vivo Energy executives over investment opportunities

 By Our Reporter

Energy Minister Dr Juma Zuberi Homera has held talks with Vivo Energy executives on investment opportunities in Tanzania, including the company’s interest in expanding into clean cooking energy, water and mining.

The discussions took place on October 22, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, as the government seeks to attract investment and expand opportunities across the energy sector.

Vivo Energy Tanzania managing director Mohamed Bougriba told Dr Homera that the company was interested in diversifying its operations beyond petroleum products and lubricants into other sectors, including clean cooking energy.

The proposed expansion could create opportunities to increase private-sector participation in Tanzania’s clean cooking market, where access to modern and affordable energy solutions remains an important development priority.

Clean cooking investment is particularly relevant to efforts to reduce dependence on traditional cooking fuels and improve access to cleaner alternatives for households.

Vivo Energy, which distributes petroleum products and lubricants in several countries, is also exploring opportunities in water and mining, according to information shared during the meeting.

Dr Homera commended the company for its operations and engagement with the government, although further details on the proposed investments, including their value and implementation timelines, were not provided.

The discussions highlight the potential for established energy companies to diversify their investments and contribute to Tanzania’s broader economic and energy development goals.

For the clean cooking sector, the key question will be whether the company’s stated interest translates into concrete projects that expand access to affordable energy solutions for households and businesses.
