Dr Homera Connects Nakanyonyo Hamlet to Electricity in Tunduru

By Our Reporter,

Minister for Energy Dr Juma Zuberi Homera has switched on electricity in Nakanyonyo Hamlet, Tunduru District, Ruvuma Region, in a move aimed at improving access to power and supporting economic and social development.

The project cost TSh 82.86 million and involved the construction of a 1.889-kilometre low-voltage power line, installation of a 100 KVA transformer and connection of customers.

The new electricity connection is part of the government’s efforts to extend power services to communities and help residents use electricity for household needs and income-generating activities.

In Tunduru North Constituency, all 92 villages have access to electricity infrastructure. Of the 602 hamlets in the constituency, 482 have already been connected, while 99 are covered by ongoing projects.

Once the ongoing projects are completed, 581 hamlets will have electricity access, representing about 97 percent of all hamlets in the constituency. The remaining 21 hamlets are expected to be included in projects scheduled to begin soon.

In Nakayaya Ward, all five villages have electricity infrastructure, and all 20 hamlets have been reached, representing 100 percent coverage.

Access to electricity is expected to create more opportunities for small businesses, improve daily activities and enable residents to establish or expand enterprises that depend on reliable power.

The government’s continued investment in rural electrification aims to improve living standards and support development in communities across the country.
