The 2026 Uhuru Torch National Leader, Wazo Mwang’onda, has called on engineers and government officials to strengthen supervision of development projects to ensure public funds deliver value to citizens.
Mr Mwang’onda made the remarks in Muleba District, Kagera Region, during the Uhuru Torch tour, where he commended the district TARURA manager, Engineer Dativa Telesphory, for what he described as effective oversight of development projects.
He said proper supervision was essential in ensuring that government funds allocated to infrastructure projects were used for their intended purposes and produced the expected results.
“I would like to thank and commend the TARURA manager in Muleba for the good work she is doing. I also urge other engineers to support Muleba’s development,” Mr Mwang’onda said.
He said engineers had a particularly important role to play because many public investments involved construction, including roads and buildings.
“Development moves through projects involving construction, including roads and buildings. Therefore, engineers must commit themselves to advancing development in the country,” he said.
Mr Mwang’onda also challenged government leaders in Muleba to maintain close oversight of projects being implemented in their areas, saying accountability should extend beyond the allocation of funds to ensuring that communities ultimately benefit from the investments.
He said the Government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, had continued to release funds for development projects through various local government authorities.
“Leaders and officials have a responsibility to ensure these resources generate real value for citizens,” he said.
The call comes amid growing emphasis on project supervision and value for money in public infrastructure spending, particularly as local authorities implement roads, buildings and other projects intended to improve services and stimulate economic activity.
