The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has donated office equipment to the Low Vision Organization of Tanzania (LOVIOT), seeking to strengthen the organisation’s ability to provide services to people living with low vision.
The support, handed over in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, includes office desks and chairs, visitors’ chairs, computers and a printer.
The equipment is expected to improve LOVIOT’s working environment and make it easier for the organisation to coordinate its activities and reach more people who need support.
The donation is part of NHC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives targeting communities and groups with special needs.
Handing over the equipment on behalf of NHC, the corporation’s public relations officer, Yamlihery Ndullah, said the organisation’s role extended beyond developing houses and commercial buildings.
“Our responsibility does not end with building houses and other structures. It also involves supporting initiatives that improve the lives of the communities we serve,” she said.
Ms Ndullah said NHC, under Director General Hamad Abdallah, had continued to support institutions and groups requiring assistance as part of its wider community outreach.
She said the corporation was pleased to support LOVIOT because stronger institutional capacity would help improve services for people with low vision.
LOVIOT chairman Mark Hamis welcomed the donation, saying it had come at a critical time for the organisation.
He said the equipment would ease the organisation’s day-to-day operations and improve its ability to serve more beneficiaries.
“The National Housing Corporation has been a great blessing to us. We thank them for remembering us and recognising our needs. We ask them to continue with the same spirit of supporting the community,” Mr Hamis said.
Mr Hamis said the support also demonstrated that the needs of people with low vision were increasingly being recognised by institutions and other stakeholders.
For LOVIOT, the donation goes beyond replacing or adding office furniture and equipment. Better working facilities can help the organisation coordinate services, communicate with beneficiaries and expand its reach.
NHC said the initiative reflected its commitment to contributing to community development alongside its core mandate of developing housing and other properties.
