Dar es Salaam. Kitunda-based Ngwele FC has appealed to businesses, institutions and other stakeholders to support its efforts to nurture grassroots football talent and build a competitive team.
The club says it was established to bring young people together through football, identify and develop emerging talent and provide youths with a productive platform to pursue their sporting ambitions.
Speaking about the club’s objectives, Ngwele FC leader Kareem said the team was also formed to give young players an opportunity to showcase their abilities while contributing to youth development in the community.
“Ngwele FC was established to bring young people together through football, nurture grassroots talent and give them an opportunity to use their time productively. We also wanted to build a team that could represent our area and become a catalyst for youth development,” he said.
Kareem said the club’s immediate priority is to strengthen its squad, improve its competitiveness and create opportunities for talented players to be identified and advance their careers.
“Our main goal is to develop Ngwele FC into a strong and competitive team, while helping talented young players gain exposure and improve their skills. We also want to participate in various competitions and gradually establish a sound management structure,” he said.
Despite its ambitions, the club faces a number of challenges, particularly limited access to football equipment, transport costs, competition expenses and funding for training and other team needs.
“As a grassroots team, we largely depend on the commitment of our players and leaders, together with support from members of the community,” Kareem said.
The club is therefore seeking assistance in the form of jerseys, footballs, training equipment and sports medical services.
It is also appealing for financial sponsorship to meet transport costs, participate in competitions, facilitate training and cover other essential expenses.
Kareem said long-term partnerships would be particularly valuable in ensuring the sustainability of the club and creating a clear pathway for young players.
“Above all, we need stakeholders who are ready to work with us over the long term in developing the team and our young players,” he said.
He urged businesses and institutions to look beyond Ngwele FC as merely a football team, saying it also serves a wider social purpose by providing young people with opportunities to develop their talents.
“We appeal to stakeholders to see Ngwele FC as more than a football team. It is part of our youth and our community. Every contribution, big or small, can change the life of a talented young person and give them an opportunity to pursue their dream,” he said.
Kareem said the club was ready to partner with organisations and individuals interested in investing in sports and youth development.
“We believe that by working together, we can make this team an example of how football can create opportunities and contribute to youth development,” he said.
