African Union (AU) Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, has expressed her condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Ambassador Mulamula said she received news of Mr Ameir’s death with profound shock and sadness, describing him as a kind and humble man whom she knew through various leadership engagements.
“I received the news of the death with great sadness. It is deeply distressing news. I personally knew Mzee Hafidh Ameir through various leadership visits. He was a good and very humble man,” Ambassador Mulamula said.
She prayed for the late Mr Ameir’s soul to rest in peace and extended her heartfelt condolences to President Samia, saying she would continue praying for her to find comfort and strength during the difficult period.
“I extend my deepest condolences to President Samia for the loss of her beloved husband. I continue to pray for her to find comfort and strength during this difficult time,” she said.
Mr Ameir died on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.
His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from leaders and members of the public, who have expressed solidarity with President Samia and the family during the period of mourning.
