Actress Mwanaharusi Ally Makwinjo has been barred from participating in film and acting activities for six months after the Tanzania Film Board found her in breach of professional ethics during preparations for a film production in Chanika, Dar es Salaam.

The suspension, effective September 15, 2026, follows an ethics hearing in which the Board met with Ms Makwinjo to examine and discuss the incident that prompted the disciplinary action.

The Board said the sanction was imposed after considering the circumstances of the case and determining that the conduct amounted to an ethical violation under the rules governing the film and acting industry.

Ms Makwinjo will therefore be prohibited from engaging in film production and acting activities throughout the six-month period.

The Board, however, has not disclosed details of the alleged ethical breach, saying it is continuing to follow up on other individuals linked to the incident.

“Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the procedures governing the film and acting industry,” the Board said in a statement.

The case comes as regulators continue to emphasise professional conduct and accountability among players in Tanzania's creative industry.

The Film Board said it would continue taking disciplinary measures against industry stakeholders found to have violated ethical standards, stressing the need for compliance with the rules governing the sector.
