Tanzania and Vietnam are exploring opportunities to expand trade and investment, with livestock and tourism identified as areas with potential for stronger cooperation.
The prospects were discussed on Friday when Arusha Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla met a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep in Arusha.
Mr Makalla said the region was ready to work with Vietnamese investors and institutions to facilitate investment and other development initiatives.
He also highlighted Vietnam’s presence in Tanzania’s telecommunications sector through Halotel as an example of the economic links already established between the two countries.
Mr Hiep said Vietnam was interested in expanding economic cooperation with Tanzania, pointing to the livestock sector as one of the areas where Arusha offered investment opportunities.
The delegation also expressed interest in increasing the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Tanzania through joint promotion of tourism attractions.
Arusha is home to major tourism destinations, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Mount Kilimanjaro, making tourism a key area of economic activity in the region.
The visit was part of broader diplomatic and economic engagements between Tanzania and Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation also participated in the second session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries, held in Dar es Salaam from September 21 to 23, 2026.
The commission provides a platform for the two countries to discuss areas of economic cooperation, trade and investment and identify opportunities for expanding bilateral relations.
