ACT Wazalendo has completed the process of selecting its nominee for Zanzibar’s First Vice President, with the party expected to formally submit the name to the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council.

The decision was reached on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during a special meeting of the party’s National Leadership Committee held at its headquarters in Vuga, Unguja.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, ACT Wazalendo said the meeting exercised powers granted under Article 72(3)(f) of the party’s constitution to nominate a candidate for the position.

The party, however, did not name the nominee in the statement, saying the name would be formally presented to the President of Zanzibar to complete the required procedures under Articles 39(1), (2) and (3) of the Zanzibar Constitution.

The announcement marks another step in ACT Wazalendo’s preparations for the forthcoming electoral process in Zanzibar, where the position of First Vice President is among the key leadership posts to be filled through the constitutional process.

The First Vice President serves within Zanzibar’s executive structure, making the nomination an important part of the parties’ preparations for the formation of the next government.

ACT Wazalendo said the nomination was made by its national leadership in accordance with the party’s internal procedures.

The statement was signed by ACT Wazalendo Secretary-General Ado Shaibu and issued on September 17, 2026.

The party concluded the statement with its political slogan, “Taifa Kwanza, Leo na Kesho” (Nation First, Today and Tomorrow).
