Ngorongoro Council approves form five scholarship beneficiaries

The Ngorongoro Division Pastoralists Council has approved a list of 33 Form Five students set to benefit from scholarships funded by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), in a move aimed at strengthening ties between the conservation authority and communities living within the area.

The decision was reached yesterday, August 18, 2026, when the council’s Executive Committee met to scrutinise and endorse names submitted by 11 wards in the Ngorongoro Division.

Each of the 11 wards, covering 25 villages, selected three students for the scholarship programme, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 33.

The programme is part of efforts by the NCAA to support education among communities living within the conservation area while promoting stronger cooperation between residents and the authority.

Ngorongoro Conservation Commissioner Abdul-Razaq Badru said education support was among several interventions being undertaken to address the needs of communities in the area.

“Alongside supporting education services for students in Ngorongoro Division, we will conduct an assessment of water and road needs within the next week,” Mr Badru said.

He said the assessment would help identify areas requiring urgent intervention, noting that the NCAA planned to drill seven boreholes and rehabilitate sections of the road network within the conservation area.

The interventions, he added, were intended to improve access for local communities while also supporting tourism activities.

Mr Badru also said the NCAA was working with telecommunications companies to expand and improve communication services in the conservation area.

He said the authority expected communication coverage in many parts of Ngorongoro to have improved significantly by the end of 2026.

The measures come as the NCAA continues to balance conservation responsibilities with the social and economic needs of communities living within the conservation area.

The Executive Committee of the Ngorongoro Division Pastoralists Council comprises councillors, village chairpersons, traditional leaders, women representatives, youth representatives and the NCAA conservation representative.
