President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has urged residents to take greater responsibility for protecting public development projects to ensure they continue delivering essential services to communities.
Dr Mwinyi made the call on Friday, August 14, 2026, while addressing the climax of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026 at Mwehe Grounds in Makunduchi, South Unguja.
He said investments in water supply, healthcare and roads were intended to improve living standards and support economic and social development, making their protection a shared responsibility between the government and citizens.
The President called on residents of Kizimkazi and other parts of southern Unguja to use the facilities for their intended purposes and work with authorities to prevent damage and misuse.
“Development projects are important in improving people’s lives. We must work together to protect them so they can continue serving communities for years to come,” Dr Mwinyi said.
Beyond public infrastructure, Dr Mwinyi said the Kizimkazi Festival had increasingly become an important platform for promoting tourism, culture and investment opportunities.
He said the event was also creating space for entrepreneurs and businesses to showcase their products, access new markets and build commercial networks, while providing opportunities for young people to develop and promote their talents.
The President commended the festival’s organising committee for sustaining and expanding the event, saying the government would continue supporting initiatives capable of stimulating tourism, cultural promotion, trade, employment and household incomes.
The Kizimkazi Festival 2026 was opened by Dr Mwinyi on August 12 and concluded on Friday by President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, at Mwehe Grounds.
The festival has brought together government institutions, businesses, entrepreneurs and members of the public, with exhibitions and activities focusing on investment, trade, tourism, culture and community development.
