A team of specialists from Tanzania’s Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has joined an international medical team conducting a major eye surgery camp at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe.
The Muhimbili team was invited by Vision Care President Dr Donghae Kim to take part in the specialised and highly specialised eye surgeries being provided to patients with various eye conditions.
Vision Care, an international organisation headquartered in South Korea, focuses on reducing blindness globally through eye health services, treatment and surgical interventions.
During the camp, Muhimbili specialists are working alongside Vision Care experts and other international medical professionals to provide advanced eye-care services to Malawian patients.
The participation reflects the growing role of Tanzanian medical specialists in regional and international health initiatives, while also creating opportunities for knowledge and skills exchange among specialists from different countries.
For Muhimbili, the engagement provides an opportunity to share its expertise in specialised eye care while learning from international partners and contributing to efforts to address avoidable blindness.
The initiative also strengthens health-sector cooperation between Tanzania and international partners, particularly in expanding access to specialised medical services.
Muhimbili’s involvement comes as countries across Africa continue to seek partnerships and specialist expertise to improve access to quality eye care and reduce the burden of blindness.
