The Tanzania national boxing team, Faru Weusi, has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games through an intensive training programme featuring two sessions per day as they build up to the international event scheduled from July 23 to August 2 in Scotland.

The squad is currently engaged in demanding morning and afternoon training sessions aimed at improving physical fitness, sharpening technical skills, and strengthening overall performance ahead of the global competition.

Head coach Samuel Kapungu, widely known as “Batman,” told The Respondent Online that the team’s preparations are progressing steadily, with all boxers showing strong commitment and discipline as they target improved results on the international stage.

He said morning sessions are conducted outdoors, focusing on endurance, stamina, and general conditioning, while afternoon sessions are dedicated to technical drills using training equipment to enhance precision and fighting ability.

Kapungu added that the programme is specifically designed to improve key boxing elements such as pad work, punching accuracy, hand speed, footwork, and defensive techniques, all of which are essential at elite level competition.

“Preparations are going well and the boxers are in good condition. The morale is high, and everyone is working hard to ensure they are fully ready for the competition,” said Kapungu.

He noted that the technical bench is closely monitoring each athlete’s progress to ensure they reach the required competitive standard before the team departs for Scotland.

Kapungu further explained that the team will engage in friendly bouts after completing the main training phase, which will serve as an important assessment tool to identify strengths and areas that need improvement before final preparations.

He said the sparring sessions will help the coaches make final adjustments and ensure the boxers are fully prepared for the intensity of international competition.

Faru Weusi are expected to represent Tanzania at the Commonwealth Games with strong ambitions of delivering impressive performances and flying the national flag high on the global stage.
