The Dar es Salaam Water and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) is among the key institutions participating in the National Environment Week celebrations currently taking place at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre grounds in Dodoma.
The event is being held under the theme: “Vision 2050: Let Us Take Responsibility to Green Tanzania.”
The annual commemoration, observed from June 1 to June 5, brings together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
The aim is to raise awareness on environmental conservation, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and discuss strategies to address the impacts of climate change.
Opening the national celebrations, the Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Reuben Kwagilwa, emphasized the importance of environmental protection in achieving Tanzania’s Vision 2050 development goals.
He stressed that environmental conservation efforts must be prioritized through large-scale tree planting, reduction of environmental pollution, mitigation of climate change impacts, strengthening of carbon trading initiatives, and implementation of green development projects.
During the exhibition, DAWASA is participating through the Ministry of Water and its affiliated institutions’ pavilion, where it is educating visitors on clean water supply and sanitation services.
The authority is also raising awareness on the importance of protecting water sources, while showcasing ongoing projects and strategies aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for citizens.
DAWASA officials are further engaging the public on the critical role communities play in safeguarding water catchment areas, stressing that sustainable protection of water sources is essential for both present and future generations.
