The Government of the Sixth Phase under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has signed approximately 80 infrastructure contracts worth about Sh6 trillion, aimed at strengthening and improving key infrastructure across the country.
The Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, said the agreements reflect the government’s strong commitment to advancing national development through major investments in roads, bridges, and related infrastructure projects that are at different stages of implementation.
He made the remarks on Thursday, May 21, 2026, while concluding the debate on the budget estimates for the Ministry of Works for the 2026/2027 financial year in Parliament.
Ulega noted that during the past five years of President Samia’s leadership, the government has carried out significant reforms and achievements in the construction sector, including the construction of bridges and 1,495 kilometres of tarmac roads across the country.
“In these five years, alongside all the achievements that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has delivered in the bridge sector, there are also 1,495 kilometres of tarmac roads that have been constructed under the Sixth Phase Government nationwide. In addition, she has signed about 80 contracts worth around TZS6 trillion, which are currently in the pipeline,” Ulega said.
He explained that these developments demonstrate the government’s clear vision and determination to transform the country through large-scale infrastructure investment.
According to him, the ongoing projects show a strong pipeline of works that will continue to improve connectivity, trade, and service delivery across Tanzania.
Ulega added that the achievements reflect the President’s broader agenda of ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with the country’s economic and social needs.
He emphasized that improved roads and bridges are essential in linking regions, supporting business activities, and enhancing access to essential services for citizens.
He further said the government’s continued investment in infrastructure is a clear indication of where President Samia intends to take the country in terms of long-term development and economic transformation.
The Minister assured Parliament that the Ministry of Works will continue to supervise ongoing projects effectively to ensure value for money and timely completion, as the government pushes forward its development agenda.
