Chama Cha Mapinduzi on Wednesday hosted a strategic meeting bringing together China’s Communist Party of China and six Southern African liberation parties in a renewed push to strengthen political solidarity and development cooperation.

The meeting, held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha, Coast Region, formed part of an official working visit by Comrade Liu Haixing, a member of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the International Department of the CPC.

Senior leaders from liberation movements including African National Congress of South Africa, FRELIMO of Mozambique, MPLA of Angola, SWAPO of Namibia and ZANU-PF of Zimbabwe joined CCM and CPC officials in discussions centred on governance, leadership and inclusive development.

The parties explored ways to strengthen cooperation through the exchange of leadership experiences, policy dialogue and development strategies aimed at accelerating economic transformation and improving the welfare of citizens.

The gathering also underscored the enduring historical ties between African liberation movements and China, with leaders emphasising the importance of unity and collective action in addressing emerging global economic and political challenges.

A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of the Research Centre on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, an initiative expected to enhance academic collaboration, leadership training and policy research between CCM and the CPC.

The new centre, officials said, will serve as a platform for intellectual exchange and capacity building as both sides seek to deepen cooperation in governance and development.

The meeting reflects growing engagement between China and Africa’s liberation parties at a time when political organisations across the continent are increasingly looking to strengthen partnerships that support modernisation, economic resilience and sustainable development.
