TRA reaffirms taxpayer rights, pledges faster solutions to business challenges

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Tanzania Revenue Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all taxpayers in the country are treated fairly, listened to, and supported in resolving tax-related challenges in a timely manner.

This was said by the Commissioner General, Yusuph Juma Mwenda, during a meeting with businesspeople from the Temeke Tax Region who visited TRA headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting is part of TRA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen communication and build closer relationships with taxpayers and business stakeholders.

Mwenda emphasized that every taxpayer has the right to be heard and to receive clear and timely responses when raising concerns.

He said TRA is working to ensure that its services are more open, friendly, and accessible so that taxpayers can easily ask questions and get proper guidance on tax matters without unnecessary difficulties.

He added that improving communication between TRA and taxpayers is key to reducing misunderstandings and building trust.

According to him, when taxpayers clearly understand tax procedures and obligations, it becomes easier to comply voluntarily, which benefits both individuals and the government.

Mwenda also explained that TRA continues to hold regular meetings with different groups of stakeholders across the country.

These meetings give taxpayers an opportunity to directly share their challenges and receive immediate clarification or solutions where possible.

He said this approach is aimed at making tax services more responsive and customer-focused, ensuring that challenges are addressed quickly instead of taking long periods.

It also supports efforts to create a fair and predictable tax system that encourages business growth.

The Commissioner General further noted that TRA is improving its services through better systems, staff development, and the use of technology to simplify tax processes.

These improvements are meant to reduce delays, increase efficiency, and ensure that taxpayers receive quality service.

Mwenda stressed that a strong relationship between TRA and taxpayers is important for national development.

He said when the tax system is fair and trusted, more people are willing to comply, which leads to increased revenue for government development projects.

He added that higher revenue collection helps the government to invest more in essential services such as roads, health, education, and other key sectors that directly benefit citizens.

Business representatives from Temeke welcomed the engagement and expressed appreciation for TRA’s willingness to listen to their concerns.

They said such meetings help build understanding and improve cooperation between taxpayers and the authority.

The engagement reflects TRA’s continued efforts to improve service delivery, strengthen trust, and ensure that the tax system supports both economic growth and the well-being of citizens.
