The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited has donated more than 30 electric cookers to teachers at a girls’ secondary school in Manyara Region, stepping up efforts to promote clean cooking energy as part of the country’s wider electrification drive.

The cookers, provided through an initiative led by TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange, are expected to ease the daily workload of teachers while encouraging a shift towards electricity-based cooking in households and institutions.

Speaking on behalf of Manyara Regional Commissioner Queen Sendiga, Simanjiro District Commissioner Fakii Lulandala said the gesture supports the government’s push for clean cooking solutions under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

He said the donation would not only motivate teachers but also help improve efficiency, as less time would be spent on cooking and more on academic work.

Mr Lulandala also pointed to Mr Twange’s earlier role in supervising the construction of the school during his time as Babati District Commissioner, describing him as instrumental in ensuring its completion.

“This support will go a long way in improving the working environment for teachers while advancing the use of clean energy,” he said.

TANESCO Manyara Regional Manager Regina Mvungi said the cookers had been distributed to all teachers, who are now expected to promote electric cooking within their communities.

She said the initiative is part of TANESCO’s broader strategy to expand awareness and adoption of clean cooking technologies powered by electricity.

The school’s headmistress, Gisela Msoffe, welcomed the support, noting that the appliances would help teachers save time and improve productivity.

She also acknowledged TANESCO’s role in connecting the school to reliable electricity, which has supported learning and daily operations.

The government has in recent years intensified campaigns to encourage the use of clean cooking energy, with electricity emerging as a key option aimed at reducing reliance on traditional fuels and improving environmental and public health outcomes.
