The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), in collaboration with tourism and conservation stakeholders, on Tuesday held a jogging event as part of preparations for the third edition of the Same Tourism Festival scheduled to take place later this week.
The event, held at the Same railway station grounds on April 8, 2026, attracted residents, local leaders and conservation officials who joined the exercise aimed at building momentum ahead of the three-day festival set for April 10–12.
The festival is expected to bring together Tanzanians and foreign visitors to explore tourism attractions found in Same District while also showcasing investment opportunities in the area.
Speaking during the event, Same District Council chairman Yusto Mapande said residents are determined to position Same as a leading tourism destination in Kilimanjaro Region and eventually across the country.
He said the district has significant tourism potential that, if well promoted and managed, could contribute to economic growth and national revenue.
“We want Same to become a leading tourism centre in Kilimanjaro Region and, if possible, a model for the entire country in conservation, tourism and economic opportunities for both visitors and Tanzanians who come to explore our district,” said Mr Mapande.
He noted that the festival provides an opportunity to showcase the district’s natural resources, tourism attractions and investment prospects.
Acting Same District Executive Director Ninzari Iddi urged residents to embrace regular physical exercise as part of maintaining healthy lifestyles.
He said activities such as jogging help improve people’s health and reduce the risk of preventable diseases.
Mr Iddi called on residents to continue engaging in physical activities to strengthen their bodies and promote wellbeing in the community.
Senior Conservation Officer Geofrey Kyando from Mkomazi National Park said the festival is being held under the theme “Same Tourism Festival: Make Same Green,” which focuses on environmental conservation.
He said the event will provide participants with education on the importance of protecting the environment and wildlife, which are key resources for tourism development.
According to Mr Kyando, raising awareness about conservation will help communities understand the role they play in protecting biodiversity while benefiting from tourism.
The Same Tourism Festival was launched in 2024 and this year marks its third edition.
During the festival, participants are expected to visit several attractions in Same District, including Mkomazi National Park, Shengena Forest and Mount Kidenge.
Organisers say the event aims to promote sustainable tourism while opening up new economic opportunities for local communities.
