More than 600 young swimmers are expected to compete in the East Africa Development Swimming Gala, a regional youth championship bringing together participants from Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda, Burundi, and host nation Tanzania.
The competition, organized by Prime Sports Agency, is scheduled to take place on April 18 and 19, 2026, at the FK Secondary School swimming pool in Dar es Salaam.
Organizers said over 35 swimming clubs from both Tanzania and other participating countries have already confirmed participation, reflecting strong regional interest and growing development of the sport at youth level.
The main objective of the gala is to provide a competitive platform for boys and girls from schools and swimming clubs to showcase their talent, gain experience, and improve their performance in the sport.
According to the organizers, preparations are at an advanced stage, with about 90 percent of arrangements already completed.
They assured that all logistics are being finalized to ensure a smooth and successful event.
They further noted a strong response from participating countries, with teams from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, and Malawi showing high enthusiasm.
Parents and young athletes have also expressed excitement ahead of the event, which is expected to attract a large turnout.
A special guest from Kenya’s national swimming federation is also expected to attend the gala. The guest will reportedly provide technical guidance and conduct training sessions for referees and officials ahead of the competition.
Organizers said the event aims not only to promote competition but also to encourage swimmers to break personal records, improve their times, and prepare for future regional and international competitions. The gala is also expected to inspire more children to take up swimming.
The East Africa Development Swimming Gala is viewed as an important platform for nurturing young talent and strengthening the growth of swimming across East Africa.
