Elderly Darts Bonanza set for May 3 in Msasani

By Victoria Godfrey

Preparations are in the final stages for a darts bonanza targeting elderly participants, an event scheduled to take place on May 3 this year at the Msasani Beach Club hall in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, the event coordinator, Redempta Mwebesa, said the main focus of the bonanza is elderly people aged 70 years and above.

She noted that the initiative aims to promote healthy living among senior citizens, strengthen social bonds, and recognize their long-standing contribution to society.

Mwebesa said the event will also feature a preliminary competition for participants aged between 65 and 69 years.

This category will compete in a single knockout format before the main tournament for senior citizens begins.

The main competition for those aged 70 and above will also be played under a knockout system until winners are determined.

She encouraged eligible participants in the 65–69 age group to turn up in large numbers and register by paying an entry fee of 10,000 shillings.

She explained that the registration fees will be used to facilitate prizes and other logistical arrangements for the event.

Mwebesa added that all participants will receive certificates of participation as a gesture of appreciation and as a lasting memory of their involvement in the bonanza, regardless of their final position in the competition.

She further invited stakeholders and members of the public to attend the event, saying their presence would help make the bonanza more successful while creating an atmosphere of entertainment, interaction, and encouragement for elderly participants.

She said the event is also expected to promote active ageing by giving older people an opportunity to engage in friendly competition, remain physically active, and strengthen community connections.
