Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Millya, has represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 40th anniversary of the reign of King Mswati III, in a high-level ceremony that drew regional leaders and reaffirmed diplomatic ties across Southern Africa.
The event, held at Somhlolo National Stadium in Ezulwini, Eswatini, coincided with celebrations marking the King’s 58th birthday and served as a platform to reflect on four decades of leadership and national development.
In his address, King Mswati III pointed to progress made in infrastructure, healthcare, industry, technology and education, presenting these gains as pillars of Eswatini’s socio-economic transformation.
He also called for strengthened unity within the region and across Africa, stressing the importance of cooperation in addressing shared challenges.
The ceremony featured a vibrant mix of state and cultural displays, including a ceremonial parade, traditional dances and performances that underscored Eswatini’s heritage and national identity.
Millya’s participation signals Tanzania’s continued commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement and expanding areas of cooperation with the Kingdom of Eswatini, particularly within the broader framework of African solidarity and regional integration.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, President Duma Boko of Botswana, King Letsie III of Lesotho, former South African President Jacob Zuma, and Tanzania’s Ambassador to Eswatini, Hamad Khamis Hamad.
