Innocent Mallya has outlined his key priorities for the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) leadership race, pledging to strengthen talent development, enhance support for sports federations, and deepen international cooperation as he seeks election in the upcoming polls.

The TOC General Election is scheduled for tomorrow at the National Museum Hall in Dar es Salaam, where delegates will elect new leaders to guide the committee for the next term.

The election has attracted candidates from different sports disciplines, all competing for positions that are expected to shape the future of Olympic sports administration in Tanzania.

Speaking during his campaign ahead of the close of campaigning, Mallya said his main focus is to strengthen the identification, nurturing, and development of sports talent across the country.

He noted that improving grassroots systems would help Tanzania become more competitive in international competitions and increase its chances of achieving success on the global stage.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between national sports federations and the International Olympic Committee in order to ensure effective and timely implementation of sports development programmes.

According to him, closer cooperation would enable federations to access technical expertise, funding opportunities, and institutional support necessary for sustainable growth.

Mallya said many sports disciplines in the country continue to face challenges, particularly in funding and timely execution of programmes, adding that stronger coordination and accountability would help bridge these gaps.

He emphasized that his leadership would focus on efficiency, transparency, and improved communication among all stakeholders in the sports sector.

He further pledged that if elected to the Tanzania Olympic Committee, he would work closely with member associations to ensure that development plans are implemented on schedule and aligned with both national priorities and international sporting standards.

He added that strengthening governance systems within sports bodies would be key to achieving long-term success and improved performance.

Beyond his campaign agenda, Mallya brings extensive experience in sports administration. He previously served as Secretary General of the Judo Association of Tanzania from 2013 to 2025, where he played a key role in coordinating national and international judo activities and strengthening the sport’s development structure.

He has also served as Vice President of the Archery Association of Tanzania and as Communications Director for Zone 5 sports programmes.

His multi-disciplinary experience has given him broad exposure to governance, coordination, and development challenges within the sporting sector.

In addition, Mallya has experience at the highest level of competition, having served as a coach during the 2024 Olympic Games.

He also holds a Diploma in Sports Management from the International Olympic Committee, which he says has equipped him with strong technical knowledge in sports administration and leadership.

As the TOC election approaches, campaigning has intensified, with candidates making final appeals to delegates.

The outcome is expected to determine the direction of Tanzania’s Olympic movement in the coming years, with a focus on strengthening performance, governance reforms, and enhancing the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.
