Content Creators called to champion clean cooking energy in Tanzania

Content creators in Tanzania have been urged to use their digital platforms as powerful tools for social change, particularly in promoting the adoption of clean cooking energy.

Speaking at the first phase of ongoing training in Arusha today, April 8, 2026, Engineer Benezeth Kabunduguru from the Ministry of Energy’s Clean Cooking Energy Unit said content creators have a unique role in educating communities about safe and sustainable cooking practices.

“Your platforms can be catalysts for change,” he told participants. “Through videos, skits, stories, and real-life examples, you can inspire your audiences to adopt clean cooking solutions and shift community mindsets.”

Engineer Kabunduguru highlighted that clean cooking energy comes in various forms, including gas, electricity, and improved charcoal all certified by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) as safe for human health and the environment.

He also noted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has positioned Tanzania as a leader in Africa on the clean cooking agenda.

Content creators, he said, should actively support this national goal to reach 80 percent adoption of clean cooking energy by 2034.

“By using accurate language, creativity, and relatable content, you can influence public attitudes and save lives,” he added.

Statistics show that nearly 33,000 deaths occur in Tanzania each year due to unsafe cooking energy, underscoring the importance of spreading awareness.

Content creators, with their large online audiences, are seen as key players in reaching citizens and promoting life-saving practices.

The training is organized by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, in partnership with the Tanzania Arts and Culture Fund, with the Ministry of Energy as a main sponsor.
